General Description
History
Department of Western Languages ​​and Literatures was founded within the body of Faculty of Science and Letters in 2011. English Language and Literature Undergraduate Program accepted students for the first time in 2019-2020 academic year.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Students who graduate from the Department of Western Languages ​​and Literature of Iğdır University and wish to continue their academic development can participate in postgraduate programs in areas such as English literature, American literature, Western cultures and Literature, linguistics, drama, comparative literature, cultural research, arts, education, sociology and communication. Our associates also have the opportunity to work in the fields of education and training, government and foundation institutions and the private sector. Our graduates may be teaching as long as they are pedagogical formation. Those who are interested and interested can direct their future in fields such as interpreters, written and visual publishing, advertising, journalism, criticism, text writing, cinema, public relations, international relations, human resources. Besides, our graduates can take part in corporate education / training and R & D projects in state and foundation universities, various public and private education institutions, foreign affairs, culture and tourism, ministries of commerce, local governments, embassies and consulates, banks, tourism enterprises and various private companies.

1The students who succesfully graduated from the department develop theoretical and conceptial knowledge about English Language and Literature
2They gain the ability to conduct scientific studies by applying descriptive and argumentative written expressions.
3They gain the ability and responsibility to use their knowledge about literature and culture within the framework of professional responsibility and with an ethical awareness.
4While interpreting the text-based universe in English Literature, they can analyze verbal and literary discourse and broaden the horizons of their own culture.
5It is aimed that they will be able to produce different texts that pass through the filter of the history of literary thought and theoretical knowledge acquired in courses such as literary theory and criticism and literary movements.
6The ability to interpret and mental comprehension skills; instead of being a passive receiver towards the deep structures and subtexts in the media, they reach the mental competence that can solve the afore-said variables.
7They adopt the necessity of lifelong learning principle in order to know, develop and realize.
8They show the ability to reflect the experience gained in the reception and explanation of literature to other areas of life.
9They can understand and express the link between English Literature and American Literature, taking into account form, content, and historical background.

12In the department, they have developed the ability to transfer the text analysis skill that they gained through close reading, which they learned to apply to literary works, out of the text.

14By comprehending the dimensions of literary works and cultural heritage that societies have revealed in the historical process, in the world they live in; They develop their reflective, critical, analytical and hypothetical thinking skills about life, societies and events that occur near and far.
15They gain the ability to look at the literatures and cultures of different countries comparatively with the knowledge and perspective they have gained on English culture and literature.
16They can develop the ability to perceive the cultural, political, artistic and social events that shape and/or shape the literature in Western culture and make projections and predictions for the future.
