Objectives of the Course
The general aim of this course is to make students be aware of metalanguage. More specifically, it is aimed to provide students with basic knowledge on the functioning and structure of language by teaching the basic terminology related to language and linguistics.

Learning Outcomes
1Students examine the concept of modern linguistics and its development. Students can define language and linguistics.
2Students will have the knowledge of the necessary concepts in the study of language and linguistics, and will be able to explain the relationship between linguistics and other disciplines and make comparisons in the context of these relationships.
3Students examine various definitions in language and linguistics and can explain the basic levels and areas of study of language.

Course Contents
In this course, subjects including language, linguistics, and the sub-fields of linguistics are taught. At this stage, it is considered sufficient for students to recognize the basic linguistic fields/concepts, methods, goals and objectives and to be able to explain them in English language. To attain these goals, in addition to discussing the origin and features of human language, the sub-fields of linguistics such as phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax and semantics are presented and discussed.
