Objectives of the Course |
The general aim of this course is to make students be aware of metalanguage. More specifically, it is aimed to provide students with basic knowledge on the functioning and structure of language by teaching the basic terminology related to language and linguistics. |

Course Contents |
In this course, subjects including language, linguistics, sub-fields of linguistics, and linguistic methods and practices for interdisciplinary fields such as applied linguistics are taught. At this stage, it is considered sufficient for the students to recognize the basic linguistic fields/concepts, methods, goals and objectives and to be able to explain them in English language. For these purposes, presentations and studies will be made in the fields of pragmatics, discourse analysis, first and second language acquisition, language history, regional and social variations, and language and culture relationship. |
