Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable the student to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence required to analyse the 19th century English novel, and literary, social, historical, philosophical and theoretical developments of the novel in this century; illustrate the significance of the Industrial Revolution in the literary and historical transformation of the novel and investigate primary characteristics of the 19th century English novel.

1The ability to read and analyse Victorian novels under the light of the period's historical, social, economic and cultural background. The ability to bring a critical approach to the Victorian novels with the aid of various literary theories.

Course Contents
This course studies the changes in novel genre and the period's technological, cultural and political changes through an analysis of the Victorian Era (1837-1901) and selected Victorian novels.
