Objectives of the Course |
Acquiring the knowledge of literary works, their qualities and becoming familiar with the themes, motivations, styles, motifs, arguments and counter arguments of the fictional and nonfictional works of the period, students are expected to have a close insight on the values directing the course of the 19th Century English literature and culture. |

Prerequisites and co-requisities |
In advance of this course, students must take 17th Century English Literature and pass it. Either simultaneously or in advance of this course, students must take the course of 19th Century English Novel. |
Recommended Optional Programme Components |
The students are responsible to read and examine the primary sources and course material (both hardcopy and softcopy) distributed before classes. |
Course Contents |
The course covers the Victorian era with its literary/textual works as well as cultural, political and intellectual developments. The course focuses on the leading prose writers, essayists, novelists, poets and their primary works that formed the intellectual atmosphere of the period and has had a considerable impact on today’s world since then, well into the present age. |
