History |
Understands the developments in the historical process of communication and new media, these changes and the establishment decree of the Iğdır Faculty of Agriculture, which was decided to be established within the SoKafkas University, was published in the Official Gazette No. 26163 with the decision number 2006/10381. Our faculty was connected to the newly established Iğdır University with the Additional Article 100 added to the Law on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions dated 28/3/1983 and numbered 2809 on 22/05/2008.
The Department of Horticulture and the Department was established with the decision taken at the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 07.12.2007, pursuant to Article 7/d-2 of the Law No. 2547 amended by the Law No. 2880. The Department of Horticulture, which started its undergraduate education in the 2009-2010 academic year, started joint graduate education within the framework of the graduate education protocol signed between Iğdır University and Atatürk University in 2009. Later on, the Department of Interdisciplinary Agricultural Sciences, which has different applications in many different fields such as Agricultural Sciences, plant protection, horticulture, soil science and plant nutrition, agricultural economics, landscape architecture, zootechnics, field crops, food, education and research, was opened within our university. To provide interdisciplinary education within the Institute of Science and Technology in accordance with Articles 4 and 5/d of the Organization and Operation Regulation of Graduate Education Institutes, considering the Higher Education General Assembly Decision dated 25/12/2014 and reviewed at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated 20/06/2018. The Department of Agricultural Sciences was established and the Agricultural Sciences Master's Program affiliated to this department was deemed appropriate to be opened, and it received its first students in September 2018. The Department of Horticulture left Agricultural Sciences on 04.03.2020 and the first graduate students registered to the Department of Horticulture in the Fall 2021 semester. evaluate the results in terms of cultural, social and technological changes. |

The Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Engineering-Horticulture ( first cycle in Agricultural Engineering-Horticulture) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum. |

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Igdir University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS). |
Profile of The Programme |
The department of Horticulture carries out a 4-year program to educate students to become an agricultural engineer on open field, protected cultivation, breeding and post-harvest handling of horticultural crops. The program is composed of two-years of basic compulsory courses on science and agriculture. Third and fourth years are devoted mainly to horticulture and related topics. There are theoretical and practical (field and laboratory) courses. However, few electives and term-works prepared allow students to focus on products/topics that they are interested. |
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples |
Agricultural Engineers are working in public and private sectors. Graduates who have deserved the title of Agricultural Engineer; can work in different institutions such as Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade as a civil servant, provided being successful in the required exams. Hence they will aslo have the rights to work in the private sectors such as fertilizer, chemical, seed, seedling, seedling production, storage, export-import, packaging and marketing companies. They also have the opportunity to work certification issues. They can also work as agricultural consulter and food controller or inspector in bakery ovens etc. |
Access to Further Studies |
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines. |

Facilities |
There are 2 laboratories, application area, horticulture and vegetable greenhouse belonging to the Horticulture Department.
Apart from the application areas of the Horticulture Department, there are 6 classrooms in our Faculty, 2 of which have a capacity of 35-70 and 4 of which have a capacity of 70-105 people.
In addition, there are 1 copy center, 1 canteen, 2 meeting or seminar rooms. |
