Objectives of the Course
The objective of this course is to give base information to students about fruit culture. For this reason biological, physiological, economic and ecological properties of fruit species are given as main course. Floral biology, pollination, fertilization, sterility and compatibility, pollination agents, floral bud development, light, temperature, humidity, soil properties of fruit species and also alternate bearing, fruit drop, dormancy, orchard design and management, fruit thinning, pomology are given.

Learning Outcomes
1Obtained knowladge about general fruit culture can be transferred to the farmers.
2The importance of fruit science in country’s economy is the one of the main thema of this course. For this reason the area occupaid by fruit trees, export level, the share of national income, the number of employment in this sector, relationship with industry will be one of the main issues of this course. These issues will be given to students.
3Students can be pass their knowladge to farmers on orchard establishment and menagement.
4Farmers can be given more knowladge on how they grow more productive crops.

Course Contents
This course contents; the historical development of fruit growing, its economical importance and classification of fruit species; morphological and biological features of the fruit trees organs such as root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit; climatic and soil requirements of fruit trees; generative and vegetative propagation methods; nursery trees growing, orchard establishment; cultural practices (soil cultivation, irrigation, fertilizing, pruning, controlling of diseases and pests and harvesting).
