General Description of Iğdır University

Iğdır University played a vital role on educating individuals that will guide the society in the fields of science and arts through a universal perspective, and to contribute to the production of science, technology and arts with its distinctive and qualified research.

Iğdır University is allied to ethical values, people-oriented, innovative and liberal,with a management approach and has a participatory, transparent and easily accessible administrative mechanism.

Iğdır University is an organization working to contribute to the welfare andhappiness of our country by educating qualified individuals

The history of Iğdır University goes back to Iğdır Vocational School. Iğdır Vocational School started it’s education in 1995-1996 academic year with a single program,with 16 lecturers and 20 students. 

Today , the school has 8 first education and 5 second education programs and 1500 students. The steps taken since 2001 to establish a Faculty of Agriculture in Iğdır came to an end in 2006 and finally Iğdır Faculty of Agriculture established in 2006. It started it’s education in 2008-2009 academic year with it’s 30 students. Iğdır University also founded in the same year.

Iğdır University started it’s education when Professor Doctor İbrahim H. YILMAZ assigned as rector of the University in 2008. Iğdır University develops rapidly by the support of the local communities and governers and it will be the lodestar for the area.

At the moment, Iğdır University owes 7 faculties, 2 colleges, 4 vocational schools, 3 institutes, 3 coordinatorships,6 application - research centers, 500 academic/administrative staff and is one of the first selections of students who are willing to get education to be a professional in his/her field.
