Hazelnut

Hazelnut, is the name of a shrub and fruit belonging to the fagaceae family. It is a nutritious fruit. It is constituted of oil, carbonhydrate, nitrogen, metallic substances, B and C vitamins. It is said that it is good for cardiac disease. Besides being eaten raw or roasted, it is also used in the production of cake and chocolate. Its basic species are; fat hazelnut, sharp hazelnut and black hazelnut. Moreover, there are various species like almond, palas, foşa, bear, bird and gravely hazelnuts. The favourite ones are the fat (oily) ones and those are grown at most in Giresun.

The famous hazelnut of Giresun sought in world markets is a species that is fat and has a high oil rate. Top quality hazelnuts of our country and the world are raised in our city in hazelnut fields that wrap around the slopes of streams, hills and mountains up to 1000 meters high from the coastline. “Giresun quality” is specifically sought for in world markets. The general directorate of FİSKOBİRLİK, which is the world’s greatest hazelnut foundation is in Giresun. Hazelnut is the main source of income of Giresun.
