Arrangements for Academic Guidance
ASSOCIATE DEGREE, UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
Faculty and college administrators appoint an instructor as an advisor to help students who have just started their education at Igdir University, Counsellors provide counselling services to the students for everything they need but initially for education from the first day students are enrolled to the university until the end of their student days; they help student especially during course selection and registration renewal processes.
THESIS MASTER'S PROGRAMS
In the thesis master's program, the Council of the Institute sets a thesis advisor for each student at the beginning of the first semester. If there is not sufficient number of lecturers, the thesis advisor is chosen from instructors who has a Ph.D. Thesis supervisor is responsible for assigning the courses; continuously monitoring the attendance of these courses and the learning situation; managing and directing the thesis work of the student; mediating the relations with the administration when necessary; taking care of social, cultural and other problems and directing when it is needed during the learning period of the student; and is obliged to report the level of achievement of the student at the end of each semester to the institute directorate which should be approved by the head of the department.
NON-THESIS MASTER’S PROGRAM
In the non-thesis Master’s Program, except for the secondary education teacher branch, the Institute Directorate of Education appoints a faculty member who will advise each student in the course selection and the execution of the term project or a faculty member who has doctorate in the field of science covering the relevant program if there is not enough number of faculty members at the beginning of the first semester. Thesis supervisor is responsible for assigning the courses; continuously monitoring the attendance of these courses and the learning situation; managing and directing the thesis work of the student; mediating the relations with the administration when necessary; taking care of social, cultural and other problems and directing when it is needed during the learning period of the student; and is obliged to report the level of achievement of the student at the end of each semester to the institute directorate which should be approved by the head of the department.
DOCTORAL PROGRAMS
At the beginning of the first semester of, the Council of the Institute assignes a thesis supervisor for each student. The recommendation of the thesis supervisor is finalized by the decision of the Institute Board. If the nature of thesis work requires more than one thesis supervisor, a second thesis supervisor can be appointed. The thesis supervisor is selected among the lecturers. Thesis supervisor is responsible for assigning the courses; continuously monitoring the attendance of these courses and the learning situation; managing and directing the thesis work of the student; mediating the relations with the administration when necessary; taking care of social, cultural and other problems and directing when it is needed during the learning period of the student; and is obliged to report the level of achievement of the student at the end of each semester to the institute directorate which should be approved by the head of the department. From the date of appointment of the Graduate School Administrative Board, Thesis advisor may open a course called Lecture on specialized field in addition to all other academic and administrative tasks and duties for all students who are under his/her advisory during each semester and summer term. Lecture on specialized field is not included in the student's credit. Every student is obliged to take the lecture on specialized field. The principles concerning the subject area of expertise are decided by the Senate and implemented by the Institute Executive Board.
