General Description
History
The PhD Program in Basic Islamic Sciences within the Graduate Education Institute of Iğdır University was established to train expert academicians and to provide original contributions to the literature of Islamic studies. The program conducts academic education and research activities at the doctoral level in core fields such as Tafsir, Hadith, Kalam, Islamic Law, History of Islamic Sects, Sufism, and Arabic Language and Rhetoric.

Specific Admission Requirements
1. Candidates must have a minimum score of 55 from YDS (Foreign Language Exam) or an equivalent score from a foreign language exam accepted by YÖK (Council of Higher Education). (The validity period is 5 years.) 2. Candidates must have a minimum score of 55 in the required score type from ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam). (The validity period is 5 years.) 3. To apply for the PhD program with a bachelor's degree, candidates must obtain a minimum score of 80 in the required score type from ALES. Additionally, the graduation cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 75 out of 100 or at least 3 out of 4. 4. During evaluations; if the transcript includes the 100-point grading system, the cumulative grade point average determined by the respective university will be taken into account. If only the 4-point grading system is available, the equivalent score out of 100 specified in the YÖK grade conversion table will be adopted.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students may request exemption from courses they have successfully completed in a completed or attended master's (with or without thesis) or doctoral program prior to being granted definitive enrollment into the postgraduate program. Exemption procedures are conducted at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters by the decision of the respective department board and the approval of the Institute Administrative Board.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The doctoral program, for students admitted with a master's degree with thesis, consists of at least eight courses provided that it is not less than twenty-four credits in total, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, and a thesis study, totaling at least 240 ECTS credits. In order to graduate, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 (passing grade of 65) for master's programs and at least 2.50 (passing grade of 75) for doctoral programs.
Profile of The Programme
The doctoral program, for students admitted with a master's degree with thesis, consists of at least eight courses provided that it is not less than twenty-four credits in total, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, and a thesis study, totaling at least 240 ECTS credits. The program conducts academic education and research activities at the doctoral level in core Islamic fields such as Tafsir, Hadith, Kalam, Islamic Law, History of Islamic Sects, Sufism, and Arabic Language and Rhetoric.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates who successfully complete the program receive the title of 'Doctor (Dr.)'. Graduates can continue their academic careers as Faculty Members or Researchers in higher education institutions, particularly in Faculties of Theology and Islamic Sciences. They can also be employed as senior executives, muftis, preachers, training officials, and experts in the High Council of Religious Affairs within the Directorate of Religious Affairs, or as experts within the Ministry of National Education.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully complete the doctoral program may continue their academic careers and apply for the titles of Associate Professor and Professor, or participate in post-doctoral research (Post-doc) programs.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
All assignments, practical applications, and examinations are evaluated out of 100 full points. In the calculation of the final success grade across all formal and distance education postgraduate programs, evaluations may be made by assigning students work such as homework, short-term exams, or project studies, provided that the contribution of the final exam is not less than 30%. To be considered successful, the success grade must be at least 65 points in master's programs (with or without thesis) and at least 75 points in doctoral programs. Additionally, students must obtain at least 65 from the final exams for master's programs, and 75 for doctoral and proficiency in art programs.
Graduation Requirements
"Students who wish to leave the doctoral program after successfully completing their courses and the proficiency examination, or whose thesis is unsuccessful at the end of the doctoral process, shall be awarded a master's degree without thesis by the decision of the Institute Administrative Board, provided they request it and fulfill the conditions. Students who fulfill all the obligations specified in Regulation may graduate in a shorter period." "In order for Doctoral and Proficiency in Art students to graduate, they must fulfill at least one of the following criteria, provided that it is published or accepted for publication: a) 1 research article in journals indexed under AHCI, SCI, SSCI, SCI-e b) 2 research articles in journals within the scope of ULAKBİM TR DİZİN or field indexes determined by ÜAK c) 1 research article in journals within the scope of ULAKBİM TR DİZİN or field indexes determined by ÜAK, along with 2 papers/posters presented at a national or international symposium/conference ç) 1 book/e-book or 2 book/e-book chapters published by national or international publishing houses The minimum publication/publications required for graduation must be submitted to the Institute through the Department/Department of Main Arts during the application for the thesis defense examination."

Facilities
The Department of Basic Islamic Sciences offers fully equipped postgraduate classrooms and seminar halls for doctoral education and research activities. In addition to the rich collection of printed publications in the Iğdır University Central Library, our students have full access to primary sources in Islamic studies, manuscript library automations, and national/international electronic databases (such as YÖK Thesis Center, TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, Google Scholar) via digital research environments. Furthermore, study areas for students to conduct their thesis and academic work, as well as academic counseling offices for one-on-one consultations with faculty members, are provided.

4To be able to use classical and contemporary primary sources in the fields of Theology and Basic Islamic Sciences (Arabic texts, manuscripts, etc.) effectively and competently through a methodological approach.
5To be able to interpret the high-level knowledge acquired in the field of Basic Islamic Sciences by integrating it with data from different disciplines; to produce new syntheses, solutions, and original information.
6To be able to independently plan, conduct, and conclude an original study (article, book, thesis, etc.) that requires advanced expertise related to the field of Basic Islamic Sciences.
