Objectives of the Course
1) To teach students the importance of materials and basic knowledge necessary to understand structure-property relations in engineering materials; 2) to provide appreciation of equipments structure used in agricultural machinery area; 3) to teach the students that there are many factors that ultimately determine a material selection for a given application; 4) to determine the technical characteristics of equipment to be used in machine body and to be able to develop new equipment; 5) to teach the types of steel used in industry and showing the abbreviations according to standards; 6) in addition of teaching production of iron and steel to teach alloys; 7) to provide information on the process of heat treatment applied to steel, surface hardening and corrosion

Learning Outcomes
1Makes the most suitable choice of materials to be used in different areas of agricultural machinery
2Use knowledge of the crystal structure of a metal to make general predictions about the metal’s ability to plastically deform
3Know the ways of alloys and heat process of metallic equipment and use the best way on new equipment
4Learn the effects of alloying elements on the properties of plain carbon steel and comment on specification of some alloy steels
5Learn the methods of heat treatments used to increase the hardness, strength, toughness and wear resistance of machine parts
6Learn the standards of steel which is the most widely used metallic materials in engineering applications
7Recognize the basic causes of metallic corrosion and recommend methods of prevention
8Learn metallographic examinations and mechanical and non destructive testing methods
