Objectives of the Course |
1) To teach students the importance of materials and basic knowledge necessary to understand structure-property relations in engineering materials; 2) to provide appreciation of equipments structure used in agricultural machinery area; 3) to teach the students that there are many factors that ultimately determine a material selection for a given application; 4) to determine the technical characteristics of equipment to be used in machine body and to be able to develop new equipment; 5) to teach the types of steel used in industry and showing the abbreviations according to standards; 6) in addition of teaching production of iron and steel to teach alloys; 7) to provide information on the process of heat treatment applied to steel, surface hardening and corrosion |

1 | Makes the most suitable choice of materials to be used in different areas of agricultural machinery | 2 | Use knowledge of the crystal structure of a metal to make general predictions about the metal’s ability to plastically deform | 3 | Know the ways of alloys and heat process of metallic equipment and use the best way on new equipment | 4 | Learn the effects of alloying elements on the properties of plain carbon steel and comment on specification of some alloy steels | 5 | Learn the methods of heat treatments used to increase the hardness, strength, toughness and wear resistance of machine parts | 6 | Learn the standards of steel which is the most widely used metallic materials in engineering applications | 7 | Recognize the basic causes of metallic corrosion and recommend methods of prevention | 8 | Learn metallographic examinations and mechanical and non destructive testing methods |
