| | Level of Course Unit | | First Cycle | | Objectives of the Course | | This is a fundamental course aimed at providing knowledge of database concepts and technologies used for the efficient, secure, and consistent storage, management, and processing of data. | | Name of Lecturer(s) | | | Learning Outcomes | | 1 | It recognizes relational database management systems (such as msSqlServer, mySql, Oracle, PostgreSql). | | 2 | You can perform administrative operations on relational database management system (DBMS) software. | | 3 | It introduces the concepts of NoSQL and non-relational database management system software. | | 4 | Understands non-relational VTYS architectures and types. | | 5 | You can develop sample applications with non-relational database management system (DBMS) software. |
| | Mode of Delivery | | Daytime Class | | Prerequisites and co-requisities | | None | | Recommended Optional Programme Components | | None | | Course Contents | | This course covers the fundamental concepts of database systems, the structure and components of database management systems (DBMS). Data models, especially relational data models, are examined in detail. Conceptual database design using Entity-Relationship (ER) diagrams is taught. Logical and physical database design stages, normalization rules, and data integrity constraints are discussed. Data definition, querying, and updating operations are performed using the SQL language. An introduction to indexing, query optimization, and performance improvement techniques is provided. Transaction management, concurrency control, and locking mechanisms are explained. Furthermore, database security, authorization, backup, and recovery methods are covered. Applications related to the design and development of database-supported software systems are implemented. | | Weekly Detailed Course Contents | |
