Course Contents
Position of insect in arthropods- relationship with other arthropods. Details of insect characters. Body wall - its structure, cuticular outgrowths, special integumentary structure. •Insect colouration. Body regions, sclerites, segmentation. • Head and its structure and sutures-types of insect head in various groups. • Mouth parts in insects, their modification, special types. • Thorax, its structure, segmentation, sclerites, modification. Wings, evolution development, venation, modification and their function, articulation with thoracic muscles. • Abdomen, segmentation, appendages, genitalia and their modification and function. •Sense organs in various parts of the insect body, their structure and function. Insect phsiology; Molting physiology, Respiration - trachea, gas exchange, Nutrition, Excretory systems - hind gut, malpighian tubules, Hemolymph physiology, Hemocytes, Immune response, Hormones: structures and functions.
