Focusing on the aspects of two and three-dimensional modelling of structures and providing detail knowledge in statical and dynamic analysis.

Learning Outcomes
1Formulate the elements stiffness matrices, determine the global stiffness matrix and solve for the unknown displacements and forces.
2Understand Finite Element based methods for structural modelling and identify the limitations inherent in structural modelling.
3Use modern structural analysis software for the numerical modelling and analysis of structural elements, including checking the output.

Course Contents
Introduction to Matrix Structural Analysis. Introduction to Finite element method. Matematical modelling of two and three dimesional structures. Introducing the general purpose of structural analysis programs such as SAP2000, ETAPS, SAFE, ANSYS. Static and dynamic analysis and design of structures using the package programs.
