Objectives of the Course |
1) to understand the economic development of the developing countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern and Central Europe, (2) to analyze the economic problems of developing countries, related to slow growth, stagnation, high poverty rates, high income inequality, and chronic external crises, (3) to discuss strategies to accelerate growth, attain sustainable development, reduce poverty and income inequality, and decrease external imbalances. (4) to achieve the ability of analyzing and interpreting the economic developments in the Turkish economy and economies of the world, (5) to be able to follow and present the academic research about economic development. |

Course Contents |
This course examines the economic effects of the development processes in developed, developing and low income countries. Its focus is not only on the methods promoting economic growth and structural change, but also on improving the health, education and workplace conditions through public and private channels. Detailed survey data from developed, developing and underdeveloped countries will be examined in the course, as well as policies attempted and applied by these countries. The theories and core elements of economic development will be analyzed through comparative data and the results will be discussed. |
