Objectives of the Course |
In line with the basic health services understanding of the Surgical Diseases Nursing course, the basic principles of surgery, the diseases of the systems that require surgical intervention and nursing care, the current and necessary updated and social needs of the individual in order to regain and maintain the health of the patient before, during and after the operation. It aims to provide knowledge and practice skills about evidence-based nursing care. |

1 | Defines the concepts related to surgical nursing. | 2 | Explain the causes, physiopathology, symptoms and treatment of conditions that affect various systems of the body and require surgical intervention. | 3 | plans patient-centered perioperative care in cases that affect various systems of the body and require surgical intervention. | 4 | Uses the knowledge acquired in the field of surgical nursing in the nursing process. | 5 | Evaluates inpatients in surgical clinics physically, psychologically and socially. | 6 | Plans the education of the patient and family specific to the surgical intervention to be/will be performed. | 7 | Gains the ability to plan and implement the patient's discharge education in order to maintain home care after the surgery. | 8 | Recognizes surgical team members and understands the importance of teamwork. | 9 | Knows evidence-based practices and adapts them to surgical nursing. |

Prerequisite of surgical diseases nursing course; To be successful in internal medicine nursing course. |
Recommended Optional Programme Components |
In the practice course, students are evaluated every week with case presentations, student professional skill evaluation forms, concept maps and surgical diseases nursing practice evaluation forms prepared in line with the nursing process. |
Course Contents |
The course covers surgical infections and infection control, wound healing and nursing care in burns, nursing care in shock and multiple organ failure syndrome, pre-, intra- and post-operative care, ERAS and Fast Track Protocols, nervous system surgery, cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery Interventions include nursing care in urinary system surgery, digestive system and digestive organs surgery, breast and endocrine system surgery, musculoskeletal system surgery, ear-nose-throat and eye surgery. |
