Course Contents
Sociology is the scientific study of the causes and consequences of social relations, institutions, social life, change and human behavior. Sociologists deal with all kinds of issues. They explore the structures of groups, organisations, the institution of marriage, divorce, child rearing, stratification, classes, mobility, religion, law, business and governments, and how people interact in this context. Using scientific methods, sociologists conduct research that makes suggestions for the solution of possible social problems. They construct theories about societies, communities, institutions, bureaucracies, small communities, interpersonal relations, social movements, collective behavior, classes, and conflict. Sociology is an exciting field of study that explains and analyzes important issues about our lives and the world, broadening our horizons. At the personal level, sociology explores the causes and consequences of phenomena such as romantic love, identity, family conflict, deviant behavior, aging, and beliefs. Sociologists use different research methods. Sociologists observe the daily lives of groups, conduct large-scale surveys, interpret historical documents, analyze election results, conduct interviews and laboratory experiments. Sociology provides an understanding of the changes in the lives of individuals, the complex relationships in human behavior patterns, the structure and dynamics of society. Sociology provides a deeper inquiry and understanding of social life. It is a discipline that raises our awareness.
