Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to help students apply the basic rules of statics to rigid and deforming bodies and develop their engineering intuitions in terms of strength and deformation of engineering structures under the influence of external loads. In addition, another aim of this course is to make it easier for students who learn the theory and approaches developed for the mechanics of deformable bodies to apply this knowledge to complex systems they will encounter in advanced design courses.
Name of Lecturer(s)
Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Gökçen AKGÜN
Learning Outcomes
1Calculate the deflection of simple structural elements subjected to static loads.
2To be able to calculate stress and strain strains occurring in simple structural elements subjected to static loads such as tensile, compression, shear, torsion and bending.
3Ability to convert stress and strain components acting on an object to different coordinate systems.
4To be able to benefit from the stress-strain diagram of the material for performance evaluation based on the strength and strain of a material.
5Being aware of their responsibilities towards society in all engineering activities, especially in the design of engineering structures in a way that will not cause unexpected damage.
