Objectives of the Course
Introduction to steel as a structural material, to develop skills for the design of the structural connection elements such as rivets, bolts and welds and their connections, to develop skills for the design of the structural members under tension, compression and flexure.

1. History of steel structures, steel as a structural material, mechanical properties of steel, stres-strain relations of steel. 2. Allowable stress and loading conditions of structural steel, hot rolled steel members, profiles, plates, advantages and disadvantages of steel structures, application areas of steel structures 3.Connection elements of steel structures, riveted connections, bolted connections 4. Riveted and bolted connections and example problem solutions 5. Welded connections 6. Example problem solutions about welded connections 7. Tension members, example problem solutions 8.Tension member splice, example problem solutions 9. Compression members, single part and continuous connected multipart compression members, example problem solutions 10. Midterm exam 11. Multipart compression members, 1st group compression members, 2nd group compression members, 3rd group compression members 12.
