Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to examine and design the hydraulic structure built on the river and to know how the characteristics changes in the river Hydraulics and morphological problems due to these structures

1River morphology: introduction, general information
2Sediment transport in rivers: properties of sediment, initiation of particle motion, formation of bed forms, flow resistance, determination of sediment load
3Drop structures: sharp-crested and broad crested weirs, aims, functionality, water surface profiles diversion weirs: aims of building, classification, location, plan shapes, determination of the crest length and discharge capacity, determination of hydraulic and static profile
4Gated diversion weirs: aims, functionality, components, relations between gate opening discharge, type of gates, forces acting on gate and design aspect of piles.
5Dams Classification of dams, feasibility study and planning of dams, diversion works of river flow, gravity dams, forces acting on dams, stability criteria, reinforced and roller compacted concrete gravity dams
6Arch dams, types of arch dams, design criteria of arch dams, type of slab and buttress dams, earth-fill and rock-fill embankment dams, seepage under dams, scour on downstream of dam.Reservoir of dams: physical characteristic of reservoirs, dead storage, useful storage, surcharge storage, flood mitigation reservoir

11Other types of spillways: shaft spillway, side channel spillway, stepped spillway, siphon spillway. bottom outlets
12Energy dissipation basin Hydraulic jump and energy dissipation, stilling basins and types, flip bucket, roller buckets, energy dissipation in drop structures
