| Level of Course Unit | First Cycle | Objectives of the Course | To provide a clear and thorough presentation of both the theory and application of the important fundamental concepts of strength of materials. | Name of Lecturer(s) | Prof. Ömer Rıza AKGÜN | Learning Outcomes | 1 | Understand the laws of strength of materials. | 2 | Calculate maximum and minimum normal and shear stresses and the orientations at which they occur for an arbitrary two-dimensional stress / strain state. | 3 | Calculate stress, strain, and deformation for basic geometries subjected to axial, torsional, bending, and transverse loading. | 4 | Identify a statically indeterminate problem and solve such a problem for axial loading. | 5 | Draw axial, torsional, bending, and shear loading diagrams. |
