Objectives of the Course
• To teach basic economic terms and management principles which are needed to use limited production factors rationally • to provide use of management principles in the problem-solving and decision making process in livestock holdings, • to teach cost and profitability analysis of livestock holdings. • basic concepts of the economics of livestock production; • marketing and policy; • further economics for the analysis of livestock development; • tools for livestock economists that will affect future livestock development and • to provide the tools to analyses the issues confronting producers, • their advisers, planners and policy makers.

• Introduction to livestock economics • Basic Economic Concepts • Definition and scope of the economy • The role of livestock in Turkey and the world economy, the importance and problems • Livestock statistics • Cattle farming • Sheep and goat farming • poultry • Inland waters and sea fishing • Meat and meat products industry • the production of meat products and other livestock products • The milk processing industry • Milk and dairy products production • Feed / forage production • Government policies • Employment potential for Livestock • Environmental Effects of Livestock • Foreign trade of livestock products • EU accession negotiations and the WTO trade reforms • Supply and supply characteristics of animal products • Demand and demand characteristics of animal products • consumption of livestock products • supply and demand projections for livestock products • Price formation in animal products • General description of economics, enterprises, inflation, deflation and capital • Input and support related to animal production, international relations and Common Agricultural Policy in European Union, World Trade Organisation and treaty • International trade in animals and animal products, international marketing policies and strategies, problems and solutions in foreign trade, • Problems and solutions in animal production in Turkey, professional and trade organizations in the industry • Marketing and marketing systems (Organizations), and marketing model on production of milk, egg, white and red meat. • Livestock organizations
