Objectives of the Course |
Despite the increasing success in protein-based drugs and production processes, safe and low-cost production techniques are the most important parameters in the developing bioindustry. Although the existing separation/purification techniques can work at an optimum level, they lose their effectiveness as the size of the product intended to be separated rises above ten nanometers. Some of these products are cells, vaccines, viruses, conjugated proteins, etc. The aim of this course is to understand large molecules used in biotechnology and the importance of separation in industry. A brief overview of available separation techniques and bioseparation downstream processes such as Cell destruction, Filtration, Precipitation, Absorption, Extraction and Chromatography, Crystallization and Drying will be examined |
