Objectives of the Course
The goal of the course is learning and reading the types of writing , inter-agency correspondence procedures used by institutions, terminology and handwriting in the Ottoman empire.

Learning Outcomes
1To be able to master the XX century of the Ottoman Empire diplomatic language .
2To be able to recognize and know the XX Century Ottoman Empire’s inter-agency correspondence documents.
3To be able to read Rica documents printed in the second half of the XIX century in a moderate level.
4Knows procedures for correspondence, of the Ottoman authorities
5Knows ferman, berats, ilam and other diplomatic terminology.

Course Contents
The meaning of writings and terminology used by the institutions will be taught. Plenty of examples of correspondence between the Ottoman institutions will be studied. Documents like printed writings, rika, sülüs and talik will be studied.
