Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to explain the relationships and mechanisms between plant and phytopathogen (fungi, bacteria, viruses, etc.) organisms and to give information about genetic motifs of plant pathogen interactions, molecular biology of plant pathogen interactions and signal transduction.
Name of Lecturer(s)
Arş. Gör. Dr. Badel UYSAL ŞAHİN
Learning Outcomes
1Learn pathogen entry and disease-causing mechanisms and affecting factors.
2Have knowledge about physiological and biochemical and molecular changes in plant after host-pathogen interaction.
3Learns how plant defense occurs against pathogen attacks and molecular, physiological and biochemical processes that occur during defense.
4Learns resistance types and disease resistance mechanisms in plant.
5All of this information can be used in disease-resistant cultivar development and breeding.

Course Contents
Students will be informed about the molecular mechanisms used by pathogens in disease formation and plant resistance. Genetics of host-pathogen relations: race-specific resistance, gene-for-gene formation, disease-related enzymes, phytotoxins, toxins, plant hormones, harpine and HRP proteins, avirulence genes, signal molecules, elicitors and their effects on disease formation, PR proteins, other plant genes that are active during infection, disease resistance genes, development of resistance to pathogens in transgenic plants and disease resistant variety breeding strategies will be discussed.
