This course aims at laying ground for further study in the area of science and technology in ancient civilizations and the Middle Ages, in both Western and Eastern World.

Course Contents
Starting from the concepts of science, technology and the history of science, this course examines, first, scientific and technological findings and practices of Ancient Egypt, China, India, Mesopotamia, Central Asia and Anatolian civilizations. Second, provides an overview of the period of Ancient Greek, in which speculative theories attempting to explain the universe is provided. And finally, it discusses developments in the Middle Ages, a period in which, in Europe efforts were made to reconcile the religious dogmas with ancient Greek philosophy and the Islamic World was in its heyday regarding the scientific and technological developments.
