Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to provide the students with knowledge about the substance abuse and addiction problem and prevention methods that they may encounter while working in the field of social work.

Course Contents
In this course, the definition and scope of substance addiction problem, addictive substances, basic concepts related to substance abuse, causes and consequences of drug addiction, methods of combating drug addiction, national and international and national legislation, types of substance addiction, dynamics of dependence, drug addicts psychosocial characteristics, problems experienced by addicts and social work intervention methods and samples for drug addicts. Besides, definitions about dependency; addiction types and withdrawal symptoms seen in dependence; risk factors for the family, peer group and social context that prepare the person for substance abuse; communication skills in substance-dependent children, adolescents and adults; multidisciplinary approach and social service intervention stages in alcohol and substance use disorders; social service intervention for individuals and families with addiction problems; the scope of preventive studies in substance addiction and the role and duty of the social worker in preventive studies; group work on case examples and presentation; It includes social work practices in AMATEMs and studies carried out after discharge.
