Objectives of the Course |
To teach Ottoman Turkish Alphabet used to write historical Turkish works and how to read and write printed texts written with this alphabet. What is Ottoman Turkish? Why do we read Ottoman Turkish? Alphabet; combination of letters; sample text reading and writing; affixes with cliché punctuations, transcription rules; introduction to Arabic and Persian elements in Ottoman Turkish; dictionary knowledge, applications of dictionary use. |

Course Contents |
As an introduction to the course, the place and importance of Ottoman Turkish in the history of Turkish language are emphasized. The goals of the course are mentioned. Starting with introduction of the Arabic alphabet the course ends up with reading printed texts written in plain Turkish in the 20th century. |
