To define basic terms about seed; to outline the differences and similarities between organic and conventional seed; to explain seed development, germination, environment, ecology and formal seed programme; to plan and make organic seed production process.

11 Introduce The contents of the course and learning activities. The information about teaching and evaluation methods. What’s seed? Seed quality, the principles of seed quality. Field practise 2 The Seed Industry and Seed Supply, Seed Industry Development and organic seed development in Turkey. Seed extraction, drying and cleaning methods in warm season vegetables 3 Organic seeds and conventionel seeds. Similarities and differences between organic and conventional seeds. Seed extraction, drying and cleaning methods in warm season vegetables 4 Flowers, polination, fertilization and fruit and seed development. Seed physiology Introduce of the some vegetables and field crops’ seeds. 5 Climatic requirements for organic seed production. Introduce of the some vegetables and field crops’ seeds. 6 Organic seed production process Seed production areas, plant production for organic seed Germination tests 7 Midterm Exam 8 Organic seed production process Seed production areas, plant production for organic seed Germination tests 9 Stage of seed harvesting, harvest methods for dry seeds and fleshy fruit seeds, principles of seed harvest for different organic species Germination tests 10 Seed threshing for different organic species (hand threshing, Machine threshing), the principles of seed threshing methods, damage to seed during threshing. Introduce seed package materials 14 Definition of seed storage period, reasons for storage, Effect of storage environment on seed, storage environment, relative humidity, ventilation, refrigeration, dehumidification, seed store management.
