Objectives of the Course
The components of concrete as a composite material, along with its fresh and hardened state properties will be extensively presented in the scope of the course. In addition, the basic steps for mix proportioning and a brief explanation for quality control will also be provided.

Calcium based binders. Gypsum and lime. Cements. Manfacturign, composition, and types of cements. Hydration of cement and hyrdration products. Aggregates. Properties of aggregates. Deleterious substabces in aggregates. Sieve anlysis and grdation. Methods used for appropriate gradation. Mixing water, Chemical addmixtures. Mineral additives. Poozolanic reactivity. Properties of fresh concrete. Workability methods. Segregation, honeycoming, anf bleeding. Concreting in abnormal weather conditions. Propeerties of hardened concrete. Factors affecting strenthg of concrete. Behavior of concrete under loading. Shrinkage and creep of concrete. Permeability and durability of concrete. Concrete mix proportioning. Concrete grades. Exposure classes. Quality control in concrete. Metals.
